MEDIATION SERVICES' BOARD OF DIRECTORS:

President:  Mike Van Ast

Mike Van Ast earned a degree in mechanical engineering from Calvin College, and later his MBA from Grand Valley State University. VanAst has twenty seven years of experience working in manufacturing for local businesses. He has been employed by Gentex for nineteen years where he is a manufacturing engineer today. While living in west Michigan, he started mediating in 2012 at Mediation Service and later joined its Board of Directors, serving currently as Board President (2017).

Vice President:  Jolene Clearwater, J.D. 

Jolene Clearwater is an attorney referee and the Director of Family Court Probation with the 48th Circuit Court Family Division in Allegan, Michigan.  Jolene is a graduate of Valparaiso University in Valparaiso, Indiana, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree.  Jolene attended the Thomas M. Cooley Law School, where she earned a law degree with a concentration in litigation.  Jolene has been with the 48th Circuit Court since 2011, and she previous served as a judicial law clerk for the Honorable Margaret Zuzich Bakker.  Through her work, Jolene is committed to serving the needs of children in her community.  She currently serves as Vice President of the Board of Directors of Mediation Services.

Treasurer:  Brad Weber, CPA

Treasurer Brad Weber’s personal and professional life is west Michigan based. After graduating from Grand Valley State University (M.S., Accounting), he accepted a Staff Accountant position at De Boer, Baumann & Company, PLC. Weber joined the Mediation Services team as treasurer in Holland, MI. His experienced work history in accounting made the role of Treasurer at Mediation Services an obvious fit.

Secretary:  Leigh Lohman

Leigh Lohman is an active member of the Lakeshore business community and is on the Capstone Realty team.  She has been honored for her role as a leader under 40, and we are grateful to have her bring her enthusiasm and skills to assist in directing our Board at Mediation Services.

Past President: Gordon Gallagher

Gordon Gallagher is well known across west Michigan areas as well as locations in northern Michigan and Wisconsin. He has a strong public management history such as previously filling the roles of City Manager of Saugatuck, Village Manager of Lakeview, and City Administrator of Prairie du Chien. Gallagher’s travels thus far have led him back to west Michigan at his present day office in Spring Lake as the Township Manager (Chief Administrative Officer). His passion for mediation has drawn him to Mediation Services in Holland, Michigan, where he is Past President of the Board of Directors. 

Directors:

Kevin J. Bowling, J.D.  

Kevin Bowling is the current Court Administrator for the 20th Circuit Court of Grand Haven, Michigan. After graduating from Providence College (B.A, Political Science/Public Administration) in Rhode Island, Bowling went to Cooley Law School in Michigan. He joined the Michigan Supreme Court for almost twenty years as both Regional Court Administrator and later graduating to State Judicial Educator. Bowling also dabbled in the International Division of the National Center for State Courts as the Deputy Chief of Party (Nigeria Rule of Law Project). He now serves on the Board of Directors at Mediation Services. 

Mark King

Mark King earned his bachelor’s degree in Special Education and Teaching from Ball State University. He moved on to get his Masters from Grand Valley State University in Allendale. King has held the role of Director of Compliance and Technical Assistance for over fifteen years and seven years at ThompsonM-TEC and Ottawa Area Intermediate School District, respectively. King is a key member of the Board of Directors at Mediation Serives.

Jack Gisinger

Jack Gisinger comes to the Mediation Services Board of Directors with a lengthy history of serving the business and charitable community along the West Michigan lakeshore. He served as CEO of local companies and currently serves on the Holland Public Schools Board as well as on the Mediation Services Board of Directors.  We are honored to have Jack serve with us.

 

STAFF MEMBERS:

Executive Director:  Elizabeth A. Giddings, J.D.

Elizabeth Giddings attended Cornell College and later Vanderbilt University Law School to pursue her career in law.  Residing on the east side of Michigan for sixteen years of her career, she served as an Assistant Prosecuting Attorney in Oakland County, Special Assistant Attorney General at the Michigan Attorney General’s Office, and later an Attorney at the Michigan Children’s Law Center which she assisted in founding. Giddings relocated to West Michigan where she founded Macatawa Mediation and Black River Family Law, PLLC.  She has served as the Executive Director of Mediation Services since 2014.  She is a trained Domestic Relations, General Civil, Child Protection, and Special Education Mediator, and is a Restorative Practices Facilitator.

Mediation Coordinator:  Jacquelyn Olney

Jacquelyn Olney has been with Mediation Services for four years as Mediation Coordinator.  Her efforts are very appreciated in the office; the dedication she puts forth for the agency helps make the establishment run smoothly.  Previously, Olney worked with the Ottawa County 58th District Court as Records Processing Clerk for two years.  She attended Spring Arbor University and Davenport University and continues to reside in West Michigan.  She is a trained Domestic Relations, General Civil, and Special Education Mediator.

Intake Coordinator:   Wilma Hart

Wilma Hart has served as Mediation Services Intake Coordinator for almost two years.  She had been the Volunteer Services Coordinator at Hope College for many years prior to her joining our staff.  She is a trained Domestic Relations, General Civil, and Special Education Mediator.  Mediation Services is very fortunate to have her serving the community with us.
